Automattic the parent company of WordPress.com is buying WooCommerce, one of the most prevalent Ecommerce plugins for WordPress. This acquisition will be the largest by the company as it is spending $30 million. Matt Mullenweg the founder of WordPress was asked by audience, that when was he going to make it easy to publish stores online as its already made to publish websites.
WordPress users can sell things online and can directly compete with other eminent Ecommerce solutions existing in the markets through WooCommerce.
It also supports several payment systems, distribution possibilities, inventory management and comparatively simple tax configuration. WooCommerce is also combined with various paid features tightly integrated with Woo Themes.
WooCommerce is the most prevalent option to turn your WordPress site into an online shop. Roughly 7.5 million downloads made it one of the top 10 most popular E commerce WordPress plugin powering 30 % of all online stores.
Now it’s formally a part of the WordPress family as Automattic has just acquired WooCommerce through the biggest acquisition by them till date. The reason behind snatching such kind of Ecommerce plugin is the need of the customers in the market.
This acquisition will not affect the brand image of WooCommerce as it will be sold through the dedicated website. Growing Automattic’s reach into global commerce has been the motive of Mullenweg, but no one could have predicted that the company would acquire Woo as opposed to building its own in-house commerce platform. Research shows that Woo Commerce revenue has been climbing up steadily over the past few years.
Growing customer base of WooCommerce will be used by Automattic and there will be an addition of more selling options for WordPress customers.
