Website Accessibility Testing
Building a fully accessible experience following the WCAG 2.1 level AA standard for the UK government.
The Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) wanted to redesign and develop a website adhering to the WCAG standards to promote holiday activities across Easter, Summer and Christmas. The council targets parents, children, and young people in the six towns in the Sandwell Borough. They wanted the website to be welcoming, friendly, and accessible to a wide demographic. Appreciating the needs and wants of the council and understanding the UK legal requirements, we built an accessible website complying with the WCAG 2.1 level AA standards.
We ensured the website was designed for persons with disabilities (PwDs). Our UI/UX designers started the design process by collaborating with certified accessibility auditors to choose the perfect colour palette to ensure brand consistency and adhere to accessibility guidelines. They also ensured that the web design works effectively in the dark mode. The dark mode can make it easier for visually challenged individuals to interact with and read the website.
Ultimately, through the design choices and a thorough adherence by our engineers to the company’s strict front-end accessibility guidelines, the Sandwell Holiday Activities website meets the high Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standard.
