An Overview

Ali Abdulwahab Al Mutawa Commercial Co. (AAW) is one of the largest trading and commercial companies in Kuwait, operating in nine diverse business sectors and distributing in Kuwait’s surging wholesale, retail and consumer market over 200 different global brands. They approached Sweans Technologies to revamp their digital presence with a Statamic-powered website. AAW sought a modern, scalable, and highly customisable content management system (CMS) to match their evolving business needs. With their vast portfolio of international brands and diverse product offerings, AAW required a solution to efficiently manage large volumes of content while maintaining performance and user experience.

Here are some primary goals of the AAW website:

  • Ensure rapid load times for an optimal user experience.
  • Enhance visual aesthetics to reflect quality and professionalism.
  • Develop a website that supports both Arabic and English languages.
  • Enable easy updates and management of extensive product information.
  • Provide seamless browsing across devices, including desktops, tablets, and smartphones.
  • Create an intuitive layout that simplifies product discovery for visitors.
  • Facilitate easy sharing and engagement across various social platforms.
  • Ensure robust security features and the ability to scale as the business grows.

Statamic’s flexibility and advanced features, combined with Sweans expertise in web design and development, made it the perfect choice to help AAW achieve its digital transformation goals. On September 13, 2024, we launched the website with clear milestones and under the budget. The client was delighted with the web design and performance. We were happy that we could satisfy the needs and expectations set by the client.

A Strategic Approach to Evolving Business Needs

In choosing Statamic CMS for the AAW website, the decision was driven by several strategic factors that align with the company’s long-term goals and operational needs:

  • With 96% of hacked websites running on WordPress, security was a significant concern for AAW. Statamic mitigates this risk using a flat-file architecture, eliminating the database vulnerabilities that often lead to SQL injection attacks. Furthermore, Statamic’s reliance on a secure framework (Laravel) minimises the need for multiple plugins from various authors, reducing potential entry points for hackers.
  • Statamic’s flat-file approach allows AAW to manage all content, templates, and assets. This architecture supports version control, enabling the team to roll back to previous site versions and maintain complete oversight of changes. As a result, content management becomes more intuitive and efficient, enhancing overall productivity.
  • The Statamic CMS platform is renowned for its ease of use, providing a tailored content editing experience that is intuitive for AAW’s team. It eliminates the frustrations often associated with “What You See Is What You Get” editors and allows content updates without extensive training.
  • While WordPress may seem appealing due to its free nature, the hidden costs associated with premium themes, plugins, and necessary customisations can quickly add up to over $1,000 annually.
  • In contrast, Statamic’s one-time fee of $275 and optional $65 annual fee for updates and support provide a clear, predictable budget. This financial clarity allows AAW to allocate resources more efficiently.
  • AAW’s business needs may evolve, and Statamic offers the scalability to adapt accordingly. Whether transitioning to a database setup or using a headless CMS approach, Statamic can grow with AAW, accommodating increased traffic and complex requirements as necessary.
  • Statamic prioritises simplicity, allowing AAW to enable only the features they need. This approach reduces complexity and speeds up project timelines while offering the flexibility to expand functionality as the business grows.

By selecting Statamic, AAW secures a robust, secure, and cost-effective CMS that positions itself for future growth and adaptability in a dynamic market landscape.

Web Design

The web design for the AAW website, crafted by Sweans Technologies, incorporates a range of key aspects aimed at enhancing user experience, visual appeal, and functionality:

  • The design features a clean, contemporary look that aligns with AAW’s brand identity.
  • The website is fully responsive, ensuring optimal viewing across countless devices, including desktops, tablets, and smartphones.
  • The site employs a clear and logical navigation structure, allowing users to find information quickly and efficiently.
  • Well-organised menus and strategically placed call-to-action buttons guide visitors seamlessly through the site, enhancing engagement and reducing bounce rates.
  • The design employs a strong visual hierarchy, using typography, colour contrast, and imagery to draw attention to key messages and calls to action.
  • The use of high-resolution images and graphics enhances the visual appeal.
  • The layout is designed with the user in mind, prioritising ease of use and accessibility.
  • The website’s design is optimised for search engines, incorporating best practices that enhance visibility and rankings.
  • It includes well-structured content, alt text for images, and clean URL structures, all contributing to improved organic search performance.

Through these design elements, the AAW website meets the company’s immediate needs and positions itself for future growth and engagement, reflecting the high standards and professionalism that AAW embodies.

The design approach taken by Sweans Creative UI/UX Designers for the AAW website was grounded in a deep understanding of the brand’s identity and values. This approach ensured that every aspect of the website aligned with AAW’s mission and enhanced its overall user experience. Key elements of this approach include:

#1 Brand-Centric Design

Sweans focused on capturing the essence of AAW’s brand through every design element. By integrating brand colours, typography, and imagery that reflect AAW’s commitment to quality and professionalism, the website is a true extension of the company’s identity.

#2 User Experience Focus

The design team prioritised user experience by creating intuitive navigation and a seamless flow of information. By understanding the target audience’s needs and preferences, the designers ensured the website was visually appealing, functional and user-friendly.

#3 Visual Consistency

To reinforce AAW’s brand identity, the designers maintained visual consistency throughout the site. This included the thoughtful use of colours, fonts, and graphic elements coherent with AAW’s branding guidelines, ensuring a unified look and feel across all pages.

#4 Emotional Connection

The design aims to establish an emotional connection with visitors by using engaging visuals and compelling content. This connection is essential for building customers’ trust and loyalty, making them more likely to engage with AAW’s offerings.

#5 Responsive and Accessible Design

Recognising the diverse needs of AAW’s audience, Sweans ensured that the website was accessible across devices and languages. This promise of inclusivity aligns with AAW’s values and enhances the overall user experience for a broader audience.

#6 Feedback-Driven Iterations

The design process involved collaborative feedback sessions with AAW stakeholders to ensure that the final product met their expectations and effectively represented their brand. This iterative approach allowed for adjustments based on real-time insights and preferences.

#7 Strategic Use of White Space

The designers employed white space to create a clean, uncluttered look, enhancing readability and focusing users’ attention on the main elements. This strategic use of space aligns with modern design principles and enhances the professional appeal of the site.

By adhering to these principles, our UI/UX Designers created a website that meets AAW’s operational needs and resonates with its brand identity, ultimately enhancing engagement and driving business success.

Statamic Development

To ensure efficient development and iterative improvements, we adopted an Agile methodology, specifically Scrum, for the AAW project. This approach involved breaking down the project into smaller, manageable sprints, allowing for frequent feedback, adjustments, and a focus on delivering value incrementally.

We used a component-based development approach to create reusable and modular elements within the Statamic environment. This modularity facilitated efficient development, maintenance, and future scalability. To integrate with external services or data sources, we leveraged Statamic’s API capabilities. This allowed for seamless communication and data exchange, enhancing the website’s functionality and user experience.

Statamic’s built-in asset management system simplified the organisation and management of images, files, and other media assets. It streamlined the process and ensured consistent asset delivery. Throughout the development, we prioritised security and optimisation. We implemented best practices to protect the website from vulnerabilities and optimised performance for a smooth user experience.

By combining these approaches and leveraging Statamic’s capabilities, we could deliver a robust, scalable, and customised website that met AAW’s specific needs and exceeded their expectations.
